Current Working Papers

  • “Directors’ Recommendation on Takeover Bids and the Management of Earnings: A Re-Examination of Australian Evidence”
    • This paper is co-authored with Lu (Wendy) Liu, a former Honours student.  It has undergone the following conference and seminar presentations:
      • Annual conference of the Canadian Academic Accounting Association, held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from 31 May – 3 June 2007. 
      • Seminar series of the School of Accounting, University of New South Wales, August 2007 and the Department of Accounting and Finance, Macquarie University, September 2007.
      • The Asian-Pacific Conference on International Accounting Issues, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in November 2007. 
    • By December 2009, the paper will be ready for submission to be considered for publication in Abacus.
  • “Determinants of Stock Ratings of Malaysian Listed Companies”
    • I am the sole author of this paper.  I have recently completed a first draft that is ready for workshop and conference presentations.

Proposals

  • “The Relation between Earnings Quality and Governance Quality – Malaysian Evidence"
    • This proposal is co-authored with Norashikin Ismail, from Universiti Teknologi Mara, Shah Alam, Malaysia.
    • In its current state, the proposal presents a draft of the literature review, hypothesis development and research methodology.  The research methodology to be utilised and the sources to be employed for selection of sample companies and data collection have been determined. Have recently finished selecting the sample of companies for empirical analysis.  About to apply for a Faculty-funded research grant to assist with data collection.
    • Circulation expected by June 2010.
  • “The Association between Corporate Governance Quality and Earnings Quality for Public Companies in Australia”
    • Jointly with Roslinda Lim, a Departmental colleague and Haohan (Jerry) Xing, a former Honours student.
    • Currently completed drafts of the literature review and theoretical development with circulation expected by December 2010.

Editorial Board Membership

Member of Editorial Advisory and Review Board of the Journal of Financial Reporting and Accounting.  This is a refereed journal published jointly by the Accounting Research Institute, Faculty of Accountancy, Universiti Teknolgi Mara, Malaysia and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Research Funding

  • Intend to apply for two more Faculty-funded grants by the end of December 2009.
