Absences
How do I inform the University of absences due to illness or other factors outside my control that have affected my attendance record or participation in assessments?
If you have been unable to attend classes or you have missed assignments or tests during semester due to illness or other factors outside your control, you need to inform the University so that your lecturer can take this into consideration.
Things to consider before applying
The Special Consideration form must be submitted within five (5) days of the affected examination or assessment task. In the case of illness, it must be accompanied by a Professional Authority Form or a medical certificate. Special Consideration forms for the Faculty of Business and Economics are submitted at SES.
Notification of outcome
Contact the Lecturer-in-Charge directly.
Advice of Absence
Advice of Absence is used by undergraduate students to apply for consideration for assessment tasks and missed classes when they have been affected by illness or misadventure for the duration or two (2) days or less. In all other circumstances, the Special Consideration policy applies.
Advice of Absence Form, should be completed and submitted to BESS (E4B106) within five (5) working days of the affected tasks. Supporting documents where applicable (eg medical certificate) should also be submitted. Documents submitted to the University become the property of the University and will not be returned.
Once a decision has been made, the unit convenor will contact the student directly if necessary. If no response is received, the student should email the unit convenor to resolve the matter.
